OTR

Motoring glossary

On The Road price is the drive-away price of a new car in the UK: the basic list price plus delivery charges, number plates, first registration fee and the first year’s vehicle excise duty. It’s the number closest to what you’ll actually pay before options — but it still excludes insurance, and dealer “OTR” quotes sometimes quietly omit optional extras, so always ask for the total with your chosen spec.

Example

A car listed at £24,000 might be £25,100 OTR once delivery, plates, registration and first-year VED are added.
