WLTP
The Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure is the laboratory test used since 2018 to measure every new car’s fuel economy, electric range and CO2 emissions in Europe and the UK. It replaced the old NEDC test and is more realistic — but it’s still a lab test, so treat the headline mpg and range as best-case figures for comparing cars, not promises. UK car tax bands and company-car tax are calculated from WLTP CO2 figures.
Example
A car quoted at 55 mpg WLTP might return 45 mpg in mixed real-world driving; our reviews list both where available.
