BMW iX4 Revealed: £60,170, 514-Mile Electric SUV Coupe
BMW has taken the covers off the iX4, a new all-electric coupe-SUV that becomes the third model in the company's Neue Klasse generation after the iX3 and the i3 saloon. The iX4 is effectively the sleeker, coupe-roofed sibling of the iX3, and it replaces the petrol-powered X4 in BMW's line-up. UK order books are open now, with first customer deliveries scheduled for 6 March 2027.

UK prices start at £60,170 for the iX4 40 xDrive, which pairs dual motors with all-wheel drive, 369bhp and 383lb ft of torque, and a WLTP range of 396 miles. The mid-tier iX4 50 xDrive costs from £66,075 and delivers the headline figure: a claimed 514-mile WLTP range (828km) from a large 113kWh battery, with 463bhp and 476lb ft of torque. Above it sits the iX4 M60 xDrive performance flagship, with 604bhp, 645lb ft of torque, a 483-mile range and a 0-62mph time of just 3.9 seconds; UK pricing for the M60 has yet to be confirmed but is expected at around the £70,000 mark.

Battery and charging hardware are shared with the iX3. The 40 xDrive uses an 87kWh battery, the 50 xDrive a 113kWh unit, and all versions run on BMW's 800-volt Neue Klasse architecture with up to 400kW DC rapid charging. BMW says a 10-80 per cent charge takes 21 minutes, and around 240 miles of range can be added in 10 minutes at a suitably powerful charger.

The design follows the Neue Klasse formula — vertical kidney grilles and slim twin headlamps — with a roofline that swoops to a tailgate spoiler from the C-pillar backwards. The iX4 matches the iX3's length and width at 4,785mm and 1,895mm respectively, with the same 2,897mm wheelbase, but stands 38mm lower at 1,595mm. Aerodynamics improve to a drag coefficient of 0.23. The M Sport package is standard on all versions, along with 20-inch M alloy wheels, and nine exterior colours include a trio of Frozen matt finishes from March 2027.

Inside, the iX4 shares the iX3's cabin almost entirely: BMW's Panoramic iDrive stretches a display across the base of the windscreen, with a 17.9-inch central touchscreen, a full-width Panoramic Vision projection and an optional 3D head-up display, all running BMW Operating System X. Standard sports seats get electric adjustment with memory, the rear seat splits 40:20:40, and a large panoramic sunroof with climate comfort glazing is included.

Practicality is only slightly compromised by the coupe roofline: 490 litres of boot space behind the rear seats (30 litres less than the iX3), expanding to 1,600 litres with the seats folded. All iX4s are built at BMW's factory in Debrecen, Hungary.

The timing puts the iX4 against a fast-growing field of premium electric coupes and SUVs, including the Audi Q6 Sportback e-tron and the forthcoming Tesla Model Y rivals. But the 514-mile headline range is among the longest of any electric SUV on sale, and the M Sport-as-standard equipment list makes the iX4 look keenly pitched against performance versions of its rivals.

For UK buyers, the numbers to remember are simple: from £60,170, 514 miles of range on the 50 xDrive, 400kW charging, and first cars in showrooms on 6 March 2027. With the M60 arriving later in 2027, BMW will soon have one of the broadest electric performance ranges in the business.
