Overview
The MG4 EV shook up the electric hatchback market by offering big-battery motoring at a mainstream price. This 51 kWh version produces around 170 hp, hits 60 mph in roughly 7.9 seconds and covers about 218 miles per charge, enough for most weekly routines with a home charger. Rear-wheel drive gives it balanced handling that embarrasses some pricier rivals, and the cabin is roomy for five with a 363 litre boot. The tech is decent rather than dazzling: the touchscreen can be slow and the driver-assistance chimes are overeager, but over-the-air updates keep improving things. Charging speeds are modest, so long trips need a little more planning than in a Tesla. Still, at this price nothing else offers the same blend of range, pace and practicality. For first-time EV buyers, the MG4 remains the value champion.
