Overview
The 2018 Ford Fiesta (Mk8) is the small car that defined Britain — the UK's best-selling car for more than a decade, and a superb used buy today. Launched at £12,715 on the road, the eighth-generation Fiesta was on sale until Ford ended production in 2023, so 2018 cars sit in the sweet spot: fully modern Mk8 tech with prices now starting at around £8,500 for tidy examples.
The engine to buy is the 1.0-litre three-cylinder EcoBoost, offered in 100PS, 125PS and 140PS tunes — all with a slick 6-speed manual. The 125PS version is the UK's favourite for good reason: 9.9 seconds to 62mph, 121mph top speed and up to 65.7mpg on the old NEDC cycle. Enthusiasts should chase the 200PS Fiesta ST (6.5 seconds to 62mph), while the 1.5 TDCi diesel suits high-mileage drivers. Every 2018 Mk8 engine is Euro 6, so the car is ULEZ and Clean Air Zone compliant — a big deal for city drivers.
Inside, the Mk8 brought a huge step up: SYNC 3 with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, the brilliant Quickclear heated windscreen, and available B&O Play audio. The Fiesta earned five stars from Euro NCAP in 2017, although the rating expired under the stricter 2024 protocols. With a 292-litre boot, handling that remains the class benchmark and Ford's huge dealer network for parts and servicing, the 2018 Fiesta is arguably the safest used supermini purchase in Britain.
