Overview
The i10 is proof that cheap does not have to mean nasty. Hyundai's smallest car feels far more grown-up than its 16,500-pound price suggests, with a tidy cabin, an easy driving position and controls that are light enough for nervous new drivers. The 1.0-litre petrol engine makes a modest 67hp, so it is never quick, taking around 15.6 seconds to reach 60mph, but around town it is zippy enough and it sips fuel at around 55mpg. The five-speed manual gearbox has a positive, easy shift, and the i10's compact size makes parking and tight city streets a non-event. Standard equipment is generous for the money, including air conditioning and an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on most trims. Insurance group 5 means it is one of the cheapest cars to insure in Britain, which is why it is a first-car favourite. For city life on a budget, little beats it.
