Overview
Jaecoo is Chery's answer to Land Rover — a Chinese brand with deliberately rugged styling — and the E5 is its first electric car for Britain. Priced from just £27,505, it dramatically undercuts the Kia EV3 and Hyundai Kona Electric while offering similar size and range. If value is your priority, little else comes close.
The recipe is simple: one powertrain, done well enough. A 61.1kWh lithium-iron-phosphate battery drives a 204bhp front motor for a 7.7-second 0-62mph time and up to 248 miles of WLTP range. Charging is the weak link at just 80kW DC, meaning a 30–80% top-up takes 27 minutes — fine for overnight home charging, less ideal for frequent long trips.
Equipment is where the E5 embarrasses pricier rivals: a 13.2-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 540-degree panoramic camera, vehicle-to-load power output and even a pet mode that keeps the cabin cool for dogs. The 480-litre boot is usefully large for the class.
A seven-year/100,000-mile warranty sweetens the deal, and first UK deliveries began in late 2025. The driving experience lacks the polish of the best rivals, but as affordable electric family transport, the E5 resets expectations of what £27k buys.
