Overview
The Lexus NX takes a different path from its German rivals: instead of chasing outright sportiness, it majors on hybrid efficiency, peerless build quality and a serene driving experience. For many UK buyers, that is exactly the right set of priorities.
The core model is the NX 350h, pairing a 2.5-litre petrol engine with Lexus's proven hybrid system for 243PS and standard all-wheel drive. It is smooth, quiet and genuinely economical — real-world economy in the mid-40s mpg is achievable without trying. The NX 450h+ plug-in hybrid adds around 40-plus miles of electric range and stronger performance for those who can charge at home.
Lexus cabins are beautifully assembled, and the NX's feels built to last a decade: soft-touch materials everywhere, supremely comfortable seats and excellent noise insulation. The 14-inch touchscreen is a huge improvement over older Lexus systems. Space is competitive, with a 545-litre boot and decent rear legroom. It does not handle as sharply as an X3, but it rides beautifully and Lexus's reliability record is the envy of the industry. As a long-term ownership proposition, the NX 2024 is superb.
