Vauxhall Mokka 2021 — front three-quarter view

Overview

The second-generation Vauxhall Mokka hit the UK in early 2021 with first deliveries that April, and it barely resembled its predecessor — gone was the dowdy Mokka X, replaced by a sharp small SUV with Vauxhall's new Vizor face and the Pure Panel digital cockpit. Underneath it shares its platform with the Peugeot 2008, which means a choice of 1.2 Turbo petrols (100PS or 130PS), a 1.5 diesel at launch, and the Mokka-e electric: a 136PS motor with a 50kWh battery for a 201-mile WLTP range. Prices started at £20,735 OTR for the petrol, with the Mokka-e from £30,840 after the £3,000 Plug-in Car Grant.

Real UK trim names for 2021 were SE, SRi, SRi Nav Premium, Elite Nav, Elite Nav Premium and Ultimate Nav, plus a limited Launch Edition. The 1.2 Turbo 130 is the pick of the petrols: 230Nm, 0-62mph in 9.1 seconds with the 6-speed manual (9.2 with the 8-speed auto), up to 51.4mpg WLTP and CO2 of 123-126g/km. The Mokka-e manages 100kW rapid charging (10-80% in around 30 minutes) and 11kW AC charging, with Eco, Normal and Sport drive modes. Every version drives the front wheels and seats five.

The Pure Panel cabin — twin widescreens, up to a 10-inch central touchscreen and 12-inch driver display on Nav trims — was a leap for the class, and Ultimate Nav cars even got IntelliLux matrix LED headlights. Standard kit across the range included Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, LED headlights, autonomous emergency braking and 16-inch alloys. But the Mokka lost a Euro NCAP star in 2021 testing (four stars, 73% adult) mainly for the missing centre airbag and AEB without cyclist protection — and the petrol boot of 350 litres is smaller than the Peugeot 2008's 434.

As a used buy in 2026, the Mokka is honest value: petrols run from roughly £8,000-£10,000 at the cheap end to £16,000 for top-spec low-mileage cars, while Mokka-e examples start from around £7,500. Before buying, check two DVSA recalls: a December 2021 windscreen-wiper software fault (R/2021/422) on early builds, and a 2023 recall for possible Mokka-e powertrain shutdown linked to the AC compressor stator (R/2023/139). Warranty was 3 years/60,000 miles, with the Mokka-e battery covered for 8 years/100,000 miles at 70% capacity.

UK price from: £20,735

Frequently asked questions

What is the real-world range of the 2021 Mokka-e?
The Mokka-e's official WLTP range is 201 miles from its 50kWh battery. In mixed real-world driving, expect roughly 150-170 miles depending on temperature and driving style.
What are the real 2021 Mokka trim names?
The 2021 UK range was SE, SRi, SRi Nav Premium, Elite Nav, Elite Nav Premium and Ultimate Nav, plus a limited Launch Edition. (Vauxhall renamed these SE Premium / SRi Premium / Elite Premium / Ultimate in a September 2021 price-list revision.)
How safe is the 2021 Vauxhall Mokka?
Euro NCAP gave the Mokka four stars in 2021, with 73% for adult occupants. It lost the fifth star mainly for the missing centre airbag and AEB that lacks cyclist protection.
Are there any recalls to check on a 2021 Mokka?
Two main ones: R/2021/422 (windscreen wipers could malfunction below +3C on early builds — software fix) and R/2023/139 (Mokka-e powertrain-shutdown risk linked to the AC compressor stator — ECU software fix). Confirm both were actioned.
Is a used 2021 Mokka a good buy?
Yes for the money: petrols run from roughly £8,000-£10,000 to £16,000 for top-spec cars, and the Mokka-e from around £7,500 is a cheap route into electric motoring. Check the recalls and aim for the 130PS engine for the best blend of pace and economy.
