Cupra Born 2024 review

Overview
The Cupra Born is the Spanish brand's first purpose-built electric car: a sharper, more extroverted take on the Volkswagen ID.3, with which it shares its MEB electric platform and Zwickau production line. It reached UK showrooms in 2022, and for 2024 the range pivoted around the punchier e-Boost powertrains, with prices starting from £34,190 for the 58 kWh e-Boost model.
That headline car pairs a 58 kWh (usable) battery with a 231 PS rear-mounted motor, delivering 0–62 mph in 6.6 seconds and a 99 mph top speed. Official WLTP range is 262 miles, and 135 kW DC rapid charging takes the battery from 10 to 80% in around half an hour. A 204 PS non-Boost version and a 77 kWh long-range model with up to 340 miles complete the range.
Inside, the Born leans into Cupra's copper-accented sportiness with standard sports seats, a 12-inch infotainment screen and a driver-focused cockpit. At 4,322 mm long with a 385-litre boot, it is a genuine family-hatch size — more practical than its coupe-like stance suggests.
Against the ID.3, MG4 and Renault Megane E-Tech, the Born sells on character as much as substance. It is one of the most entertaining electric hatches to drive, and with low benefit-in-kind rates it makes a strong company-car case too.
