Overview

The Cupra Tavascan is the brand's second all-electric model and its first electric SUV coupe — a dramatic, concept-car-styled flagship that arrived in UK showrooms in late 2024 with prices from £47,340. Built in China on the Volkswagen Group's MEB platform, it is Cupra's answer to the Tesla Model Y and Ford Capri.

The core UK model is the Endurance (V1), which pairs a 77 kWh (usable) battery with a 286 PS rear-mounted motor: 0–62 mph takes 6.8 seconds, top speed is 112 mph and official range stretches to 352 miles. DC rapid charging peaks at 135 kW. A 340 PS dual-motor VZ flagship sits above it for drivers who want all-wheel drive and extra pace.

At 4,644 mm long with a roughly 540-litre boot, the Tavascan is a proper family size, and the cabin majors on theatre — a 15-inch central touchscreen, illuminated trim and sports seats are standard. V1 trim is generously equipped, undercutting premium rivals on price while matching them for presence.

It is not perfect: Chinese build brings tariff questions, and the coupe roofline trims rear headroom. But as a statement family EV with big range and bold design, the Tavascan gives Cupra a genuine Tesla Model Y rival.

Frequently asked questions

What is the real-world range of the Cupra Tavascan?
Expect 280–310 miles in mixed driving from the 77 kWh Endurance model — the 352-mile WLTP figure is achievable only with gentle driving in warm weather.
Where is the Cupra Tavascan built?
In Anhui, China, in a Volkswagen Group joint-venture plant. It is Cupra's first Chinese-built model, which has raised questions about tariffs but not about build quality.
What is the difference between the Endurance and the VZ?
The Endurance (V1) is the 286 PS rear-wheel-drive model focused on range; the VZ adds a front motor for 340 PS and all-wheel drive, cutting 0–62 mph to around 5.5 seconds at the cost of some range.
How fast does the Tavascan charge?
Up to 135 kW DC, giving a 10–80% charge in roughly half an hour. A 7.4 kW home wallbox needs about 12 hours for a full charge.
Is the Cupra Tavascan a good alternative to the Tesla Model Y?
On paper, yes: similar size, longer official range than the base Model Y and more distinctive styling. Tesla counters with its Supercharger network and stronger residuals.
