Honda Civic 2022 review
Overview
The 11th-generation Honda Civic arrived in the UK in late 2022 as a hybrid-only car — the final step in Honda's plan to electrify its entire European line-up. The e:HEV system pairs a 2.0-litre Atkinson-cycle petrol engine with a 135kW electric motor for 181bhp and 315Nm, driven mostly by electricity with the engine stepping in directly at higher speeds. Three trims were offered at launch: Elegance from £29,595, Sport from £30,595 and Advance from £32,995.
Honda marketed it as 'the driver's hybrid', and reviewers agreed: 0-62mph in 7.8 seconds (8.1 for the heavier Advance), a 112mph top speed, tight body control and some of the best steering in the class. Official economy is 60.1mpg with 108g/km of CO2 for the Elegance, dropping to 56.5mpg and 114g/km on the Advance — with reviewers averaging 45-51mpg in hard mixed driving including motorway miles.
Practicality is strong: the Civic is one of the roomiest C-segment hatches, with a 410-litre boot growing to 1,220 litres with the seats folded, and a superbly finished cabin with physical climate controls and — on the Advance — a panoramic roof, Bose sound system and heated leather seats. Honda Sensing safety tech (adaptive cruise, lane-keep, traffic-jam assist) is standard across the range, and Euro NCAP awarded five stars in 2022.
The trade-offs are price and refinement: at £29,595 the entry Elegance undercut few rivals, motorway noise is higher than a Golf's, and the ride on 18-inch wheels is firm. But as a used buy the 2022 Civic offers near-hot-hatch pace with hybrid economy, Honda's reliability reputation and one of the best interiors of any family car — a strong alternative to the Golf and Focus.
UK price from: £29,595
