MHEV
A Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicle uses a small 48-volt starter-generator to assist the engine — smoothing stop-start, adding a torque boost when pulling away and harvesting a little braking energy. It can’t drive on electricity alone, so the fuel saving is modest (typically 5–10%), but the system is cheap, light and now fitted to most new petrol cars. Think of it as an efficiency tweak, not a hybrid driving experience.
Example
Many 2024–2026 petrol SUVs are MHEVs: the badge says “hybrid” but you’ll never plug in or drive silently.
