Peugeot 2008 2021 — front three-quarter view

Overview

The second-generation Peugeot 2008 arrived in the UK in early 2020, and 2021 cars are the sweet spot: early build niggles sorted, all powertrains on sale, and sharp used prices today. The range was a choose-your-own-adventure — 1.2 PureTech petrols with 100, 130 or 155hp, a 1.5 BlueHDi 100 diesel, and the e-2008 electric with 136hp and a 206-mile WLTP range. Launch trims were Active, Allure, GT Line and GT, with petrol prices starting at £20,150 OTR and the e-2008 from £28,150 after the then-£3,500 Plug-in Car Grant.

The PureTech 130 is the UK sweet spot: 230Nm, 0-62mph in 8.9 seconds with the 6-speed manual (9.1 with the 8-speed EAT8 auto) and around 43-50mpg WLTP. The e-2008's 50kWh battery delivers 206 miles WLTP and a relaxed 9.0-second 0-62 sprint. Whatever the powertrain, the 2008's party trick is its cabin: Peugeot's 3D i-Cockpit with the small steering wheel and raised instruments, piano-key toggle switches, and available 10-inch touchscreen all make rivals look dowdy. The 434-litre boot is among the biggest in the small-SUV class.

Practicality and polish aside, two things need attention. First, Euro NCAP gave the 2008 four stars in 2019 (91% adult, but weaker vulnerable-road-user and safety-assist scores) — fine, but rivals with five stars exist. Second, the PureTech's oil-bathed ("wet") timing belt can degrade and shed debris into the oil, potentially clogging the oil-pump pickup — belt condition and full service history are non-negotiable on any used PureTech. The e-2008, by contrast, sidesteps all of that with a simple 8-year/100,000-mile battery warranty.

Used prices in 2026 make the 2008 tempting: petrols start around £9,000-£10,000 with well-specced cars at £12,500-£14,000, while 2021 e-2008s have collapsed to roughly £7,500-£12,000 — a lot of electric small SUV for the money. Standard kit included Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, LED 'claw' daytime running lights, and from GT Line up you get connected TomTom 3D navigation. Grip Control traction aid was an option for slippery surfaces on petrol versions.

UK price from: £20,150

Frequently asked questions

What is the real-world range of a 2021 e-2008?
The e-2008's official WLTP range is 206 miles from its 50kWh battery. In mixed real-world use, expect around 160-180 miles depending on temperature and driving style.
What is the PureTech wet timing belt issue?
The 1.2 PureTech's oil-bathed timing belt can degrade over time, shedding debris into the oil that may clog the oil-pump pickup. On a used 2008, insist on a full service history and ask a specialist to check belt condition — late, overdue oil changes are the biggest risk factor.
Was there a diesel 2008 in 2021?
Yes — the 1.5 BlueHDi 100 (99-101bhp, 6-speed manual, up to 54mpg) was the only diesel in the UK 2008 range. There was no BlueHDi 130 on this car.
How safe is the 2021 Peugeot 2008?
It scored four stars in Euro NCAP's 2019 tests, with 91% for adult occupants — but weaker scores for vulnerable road users (62%) and safety assist (68%) cost it the fifth star.
Is a used 2021 2008 a good buy?
Very strong value: petrols run from around £9,000-£10,000 (well-specced cars £12,500-£14,000), and the e-2008 from roughly £7,500-£12,000 is one of the cheapest ways into a proper-range electric SUV. Just check PureTech belt history, or buy the electric and dodge the issue entirely.
