Renault Zoe 2024 review

Overview
The 2024 Renault Zoe was the last model year of Europe's best-selling electric car — and the smartest way to buy one today is used. Renault discontinued the Zoe in 2024, replacing it with the retro-styled Renault 5, but the final ZE50 cars left the factory with a 52kWh usable battery, up to 245 miles of WLTP range and prices that have since fallen to remarkable levels. Good facelift examples now start at around £7,000, making the Zoe one of the cheapest routes into long-range electric motoring in the UK.
The recipe is simple: a single front-mounted motor (107bhp R110 or 134bhp R135), a big battery by small-car standards, and fast-for-its-class 22kW AC charging as standard — rare even today, and handy for topping up quickly at supermarket chargers. The R135 covers 0-62mph in 9.5 seconds and tops out at 87mph, while DC rapid charging at up to 50kW was optional (check individual cars, as many lack it). Inside there is a 338-litre boot, a 9.3-inch portrait touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a 10-inch digital driver display.
Used buyers need two bits of homework. First, the Zoe earned zero stars in its 2021 Euro NCAP retest (it had five stars under the old 2013 protocol), so safety tech is a generation behind. Second, early cars were sold with a leased battery — confirm outright battery ownership before buying, and stick to the facelift ZE50 for the big range. Get those right and the Zoe is a superb second car or cheap commuter: an 8-year/100,000-mile battery warranty, minimal servicing, and used prices no other long-range EV can touch.
